about

Written/recorded during Covid lockdown, Swamp Sistas Cosmic Drifter explores the mystery and boundless beauty of humanity and life on earth. Founder of Swamp Sistas La La Foundation, a non-profit devoted to community service & supporting marginalized artists, McKee featured her female peers on the tune she co-authored with her Nashville pal Bill Tyler. Hip Hop artist E-Turn contributed a rap verse and harmony vocals, and others provided horns & harmonies. Producer John Pfiffner tied it up. Release coincided w/ Cosmic Conjunction FunKtion, an event celebrating artistic diversity and inclusion.

lyrics

Cosmic Drifter
(McKee/Javaheri/Tyler)
Vs. I am standing in the doorway
Sunlight blinds my eyes
Shadows tell the story
To a rose and amber sky
How the journey changed
And fear became the guide

Vs. I was born a cosmic drifter mm mmm hmm
I love the great unknown
Lately, I’ve been more a prisoner
But I am not alone
Where I am  is “here”
What I am is flesh and bone
Here and now in flesh and bone

CH:     The sky is wide open. Blue yonder wild and free
The sky is wide open. Look ahead and see
Rap:
Sky’s the limit, I keep drifting Constantly feeling like I’m a misfit
Offer me salary and I’m tempted but I can’t not live this life for one minute
I was born to do this so sick and tired of trying to prove it
Sometimes I feel like I’m a loser can’t do it
This is a movement and I’m paying more than 2 cents
My voice is my music the first language that I’m fluent
Swamp Sistas we been cruising with the troopers keeping it moving
Now let’s do this.

Sung: Where we are is here          What we are is flesh and bone

Vs. In the mirror of the after        Will my reflection be the same?
In the wake of disaster does one reach a higher plane?
Once the scourge has ended Will something wonderful remain?
Or will it leave an ugly stain

CH:     The sky is wide open. Blue yonder wild and free
The sky is wide open. Look ahead and see
